Resilience - yours, your team's and your organisation's

How much do you think about your organisational resilience?

  • What are organisational level risks? Mitigations?
  • What could go wrong?  What are you worried or concerned might happen? What could throw you off-course and what would you do if this happens?
  • What would you love to be saying about this in 12 months’ time? What will organisation look like? What will you have done?
  • What is the simplest useful thing you could do - to build community (trust, credibility)?
  • What is the most radical thing you could do - to build community (trust, credibility)?
  • Who else will help you? How can others help you to make progress?
  • How many first aiders do you have in your organisation? And how many Mental Health First Aiders (MHFA)?

How much do you think about your team's resilience?

  • How much time do you spend together as a team? How would you describe your meetings? How much of your conversation is transactional V transformational?
  • What have you observed about individuals who are rising to the challenge, and how do you encourage their further development?
  • What are we learning as a team, both from miss-steps and successes, and how best do we embed that learning?
  • Is your team taking enough time to stand back and think about the longer term? Clear about what must be done, and can only be done together, both now and into the future?
  • How do you ensure your shared purpose is reflected in the way you prioritise your time, and what we choose to share, pass to others in the team, drop, simplify, or delegate?
  • Do you and your team fully appreciate the strengths that you have between you? Are you making full use of them for the shared purpose?
  • Is each member of the team open to changing their assumptions and approaches, and learning from others?
  • Does your team have explicit enough about our values and behaviors?
  • Do you as a group ask each other for help when the going gets tough, and insist that each of us gets time out to recharge batteries?
  • How best do you check in with and help those who might be struggling?

How much do you think about your own resilience?

  • Do you know what drains you? Energises you? At work? At home? What strategies work for your own wellbeing and resilience?
  • How do you recharge your own batteries – do you give that enough priority?
  • What have you learned about your leadership in the last few weeks / months / years?
  • What does ‘playing to your strengths mean for you? What is working well and worth you keeping the same?
  • What are your core values and how could use these to help drive your way forward with this?
  • If you get what you want, what will this achieve for you?
  • What has worked well for you in the past that you might use in this situation?
  • What is important, what is urgent and what is the absolute top priority?
  • What is funniest about your situation?
  • What might you need to do differently? What skills do you need to develop to cope with this?
  • What do you have absolutely no control or influence over? And what will help you to learn to live with this?
  • Who might be willing to help you? How could any of us around this table help you?
